'அவர் வெளியே வந்தபோது அவர்களிடம் பேசமுடியாமல் இருந்தார்!'ஆலயத்திற்குள் ஆரவாரத்தோடு சென்றவர் ஊமையாய் திரும்பி வருகிறார்.
வாழ்க்கை சில நேரங்களில் நம்மை அப்படித்தான் ஆக்கிவிடுகிறது.
தூபம் ஆட்டும்போதுகூட சக்கரியா இப்படி நடக்கும் என நினைத்திருக்க மாட்டார்.
மரியா கேள்வி கேட்டபோது தண்டிக்காத கபிரியேல், சக்கரியா கேட்டவுடன் தண்டித்துவிடுகிறார். பாவம் ஆண்கள்!
சக்கரியா தன் வீட்டிற்கு எப்படி சென்றிருப்பார்? தன் மனைவி எலிசபெத்தை சந்தித்தவுடன் என்ன சொல்லியிருப்பார்? கணவர்கள் மௌனமாக இருந்தால் மனைவியர் எப்படி எடுத்துக்கொள்வார்கள்?
இறைவனின் முன்னிலையில் தேவையில்லாமல் வாய் திறக்கக்கூடாது என்பதற்கு சக்கரியா நல்ல உதாரணம்.
ஊமைகளின் உலகம் ஆச்சர்யமானதாகத்தான் இருக்கும்.
ஆரப்பாளையம் ஏ.ஏ. ரோட்டில் ஒவ்வொரு ஞாயிறு மாலையும் வாய் பேச முடியாதவர்கள் கூடிப் பேசுவார்கள்(!). பார்ப்பதற்கு வேடிக்கையாக இருக்கும்.
ஆனால், ஊமை என்பதிலும் ஒரு ஆழ்ந்த அமைதி இருக்கும்.
சக்கரியாவை அந்த அமைதிக்குத்தான் அழைத்துச் செல்கிறார் கபிரியேல்.
குழப்பம், கலக்கம் இருக்கும்போது நம்பிக்கையும் காணாமல்போய்விடுகிறது. சக்கரியாவின் பிரச்சினை அதுதான்.
ஆழ்ந்த அமைதியில் சக்கரியா இறைவனைக் கண்டார்!

" சக்கரியா"... இவரின் பின்புலத்தை அழகாகச் சித்தரித்திருக்கிறார் தந்தை.இயற்கை தன்னை வஞ்சித்து விட்ட நிலையில்,இறைவன் தனக்கு எப்படி உதவ முடியும் என சற்றே தன் ஐயப்பாட்டை இறை தூதரிடம் எடுத்து வைக்கிறார் சக்கரியா.இவரை மரியாவோடு ஒப்பிடுகிறார் தந்தை.மரியா கபிரியேலின் செய்தி கேட்டு சிறிதே கலங்கிடினும் பின் ' உம் சொற்படியே ஆகட்டும்' என இறைவனிடம் சரணாகதியாகி விடுகிறார்.இறைவன் முன்னால் வாய் திறக்கக் கூடாது என்பதற்கு சக்கரியா நல்ல உதாரணம்.உண்மைதான்.நாமும் கூட அதிலும் முக்கியமாகப் பெண்கள் தங்கள் சொற்களின் ஸ்திரத்தன்மையை நிலைநாட்ட முடியாமல் பல நேரங்களில் சூழ்நிலைக் கைதிகளாகி விடுகிறோம்.தர்க்கம் செய்து தன் சக்தியை விரயமாக்குபவர் சிலர் எனில் மனத்தின் மௌனத்தில் ஊமையாகிப் போவோர் பலர்.மனத்தின் குழப்பமும்,கலக்கமும் சேர்ந்து நம் நம்பிக்கையை எட்டாக்கனியாக்கும் போது, ஊமையாகிப் போவதுதான் விவேகம்.....நாம் வாய் திறந்து உரக்கப் பேசவும்,நம்மைப் பிறர் சரியாகப் புரிந்து கொள்ளவும் ஒரு நாள் பிறக்கும் எனும் நம்பிக்கையோடு.மனத்தைத் தொட்ட வரிகளுக்காகத் தந்தைக்கு வாழ்த்துக்கள்!!!

I am about to immerse myself with Mr. Zechariah in his silence...
I too wonder why he was punished while Mary was not.
The value of silence in the Bible is profound and instructive.
Perhaps God who is WORD cannot be fully heard, aptly listened to and absorbed in overly noise.
Our liturgies, worship models, novenas, and multiple expressions of devotions should do well to incorporate more segments of SILENCE.
1 Kings 19:11-13 has a reference:
God desires man to control his high-pitched heart and lower the volume that he may be capable of listening to Him.
'The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
May our "mouths of the caves" be open to His constant whispers...
May be a few more observations are in order:
The angel who arrives to announce to Mary is Gabriel.
On the contrary the angel who approaches Zechariah has no name.
Gabriel permits a dialogue, a series of questioning and clarification with Mary; No such dialogue is allowed for Zechariah.
It is a fact that history is filled with too many men too often speaking.
Hence men could shut up this time around in the person of Zechariah...who knows!
Let me note it again.
Gabriel meets Mary in her home.
In contrast Zechariah's angel appears around the high Altar.
Another clear underlining that Zechariah and MARY are not on equal footing.
She is full of grace..
